Curbar Primary School is a small village primary school set in the beautiful surroundings of the Hope Valley in the Peak District National Park. We believe our school to be fantastic and we are proud of the education we offer our children.
At Curbar we aim to make the learning stimulating, challenging but most of all fun! It is our belief that by providing a curriculum that is matched to the needs of our children they will make great progress. We try to ensure that the children receive a broad range of opportunities to help stimulate their imagination. They will go on trips, be visited by ‘experts’ in their own fields of study, have opportunities to perform and showcase their artistic talents. We hope that every child realises their talent and potential at Curbar Primary School.
We consider ourselves very fortunate that we are a community school and have been for nearly 140 years! We are very well supported by our parents group (PTFA). We also play an active part in the life of our village.
It is our aim to develop pupils who are independent, articulate learners who are ready for the next stage of their learning journey and for many of the challenges that life can provide.
We hope you find our website useful and packed with the information you need.
Mr Simon Beahan, Headteacher
Curbar Primary School is a happy, inclusive and respectful place for all members of our community where individual and joint successes are recognised and celebrated. At Curbar Primary School we believe that learning should be fun, purposeful, inspiring and stimulate children’s imagination. This will include opportunities for problem solving, developing self-esteem and exploring and developing the children’s interests. By encouraging collaborative learning, we will ensure that children are both self motivated and challenged by others in a safe, secure and enriching environment.
Our curriculum will allow the children to take risks, to know that failure is part of the journey and mistakes can be used to achieve success. Children will be given the skills to be independent learners who can reflect upon their learning in order to improve it. Our curriculum will teach the children to do this by using the skills of critical thinking and using tools of analysis and reasoning. Through our engaging curriculum, children will take ownership of it and be proud of every end product.
The world we live in is ever changing and our curriculum will allow the children to grow to be adaptable, with transferable skills that will equip them to thrive. Through our curriculum, children will increase their awareness of British Values and the values of others. Above all, we are a welcoming, positive and forward-thinking school which is driven by the needs of the children in our care.
