Visits and Admission

Visiting the School and Admissions Policy

Prospective parents are always welcome to visit Curbar School and children are encouraged to spend some time in school, meeting teachers and other children and familiarising themselves with the classroom situation.

Please telephone on 01433 630266 to make an appointment to meet the staff and children.

Curbar School is a community primary school for boys and girls aged between rising five and eleven years. The school is run by the Head Teacher and Governors and is supported by Derbyshire Local Education Authority (LEA). It primarily serves the villages of Curbar, Calver and Froggatt as well as other local villages.

Please contact us as soon as possible if you are considering sending your child(ren) to Curbar.  If the school is oversubscribed, priority will be given to:

Children who live in Curbar, Calver & Froggatt
Children with a brother or sister already at the school
Children from other areas

No selection is made on the basis of aptitude or ability.

 Admissions for September 2011

Applications for places in Reception in September 2011 have to be submitted shortly.

Application packs are available from school but alternatively you can visit Derbyshire County Councils website – www.derbyshire.gov.uk/admissions

Information is available and applications can be made online from 15th November 2010.  The new national closing date for September 2011 admission is 15th January 2011.

From September 2011 Derbyshire will introduce a single point entry. This is in line with the government decision in summer 2010 to enable all children to be admitted to school in the September following their 4th birthday.

Parents can, however, ask for a child’s place to be deferred, or that he/she attends part time, until the beginning of the term of the child’s fifth birthday.
