Our school is taking part in an exciting new project, designed by The Prince’s Foundation for Children & the Arts, encouraging all young people in the UK aged 4-16 to create a self portrait. The project is called Face Britain and was launched officially on 14 September 2011 by the charity, with a host of celebrity Patrons and a supporting message from HRH The Prince of Wales.

All young people in the UK have been invited to create a self portrait in any style they want, using any medium. Every pupil at our school has taken part and with parental permission, their self- portraits have now been uploaded onto the special online gallery developed for the project.

All the portraits uploaded to the online gallery will form part of special celebratory events in 2012 during HM The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year and the London Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The portraits will each be used as individual pixels in a much larger montage image of HM The Queen, which it is hoped will break the Guinness World Record for ‘most artists working on the same art installation’.

This image will also be projected onto Buckingham Palace so that all the children have the chance to be part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations. In addition, portraits will be screened on BBC Big Screens in city centres which become the official London 2012 Live Sites in the Olympic year as well as on JCDecaux digital advertising screens across the UK.

There will also be the opportunity for parents/guardians to purchase special Face Britain merchandise featuring their child’s self portrait, whilst raising money for the charity.

Face Britain represents a fantastic opportunity for all young people to feel part of the celebrations in 2012 and is a really interesting opportunity for Curbar School.

If you would like to have a look at your child’s work visit the project website here: www.facebritain.org.uk Ask school for the password to access the online gallery.
