We are happy that Curbar has been judged a good school under the September 2023 Ofsted inspection framework and this is the judgement we expected.  It was a graded, two-day inspection due to the school’s last inspection taking place in 2008.  This means that each key area of the inspection framework is graded separately and the inspection process itself is more thorough and rigorous than a shorter, ungraded inspection.  The overall effectiveness is linked to the quality of education outcome and safeguarding.  Our judgements are detailed below:

Overall effectiveness: Good

The quality of education: Good

Behaviour and attitudes: Outstanding

Personal development: Good

Leadership and management: Good

Early years provision: Outstanding

Safeguarding is effective

We received some amazing feedback during the inspection and we are delighted with the many positive findings that tell us that Curbar is a great school for our children to attend.

Once again, I would like to extend my thanks to the Curbar community for their support during the inspection.  We were all touched by the kind words and good wishes.

Thanks also to those parents who were able to complete the parent survey – we were, again, touched, by the many positive comments and feedback we received.

Thanks to the amazing staff who were calm and confident and did what they always do – taught exceptionally well and looked after our children.   Thanks to our governors for their work during the inspection and for their time and expertise in supporting and challenging the school.

And, of course, thanks to our children.  They were all a shining example of what we want our Curbar children to be – welcoming, hardworking, well behaved and determined to show off the wonders of our school.  The inspectors spoke to most of the children throughout the inspection and they were so impressed by their attitudes to all facets of school life, of which there are many at Curbar.

Ofsted always leave us with something to work on too.  We are always looking to refine our provision and we were already addressing Ofsted’s recommended areas for improvement as part of our school improvement work this year.
