Curbar Primary School has 64 pupils on roll, aged five to eleven, including four full-time children in the Reception year. The school is much smaller than many urban schools and is an integral part of the community of the three villages (Curbar, Calver and Froggat), acting as a unifying influence. The catchment is not entirely typical of a rural area, displaying rural deprivation alongside considerable affluence. Nearly all pupils are of white British heritage with a small number of mixed and other races and a few with English as an additional language.
The levels of knowledge and understanding of children when they arrive at school vary from year to year. There are very few pupils entitled to free school meals, which is a very low proportion compared to other primary schools. The proportion of children identified with special needs is broadly average. Such needs may arise from social, emotional or behavioural issues, speech and language difficulties or other specific learning needs. However, the number of children with a statement of special needs is below the national average.
The number of pupils joining and leaving the school during the year is broadly average. Curbar Primary School has a very low accident rate and very low absence rate for both staff and puplis.
